Michael Joseph Jackson was born on August 29, 1958, in Gary, Indiana. He was the eighth of ten children in the Jackson family, and grew up in a musical household. His father, Joseph Jackson, was a steel mill crane operator and later a talent manager, while his mother, Katherine Jackson, was a homemaker.
